The Baltimore Humane Society (BHS), was founded in 1927 by a pioneering and compassionate socialite named Elsie Seeger Barton (1886-1983). Today, BHS continues the legacy of Mrs. Barton by caring for thousands of wonderful animals every year. BHS was founded to protect the region’s pets and to address their suffering. Since inception, the Baltimore Humane Society has strived to reach its potential and to achieve its mission. Several of Leashes End’s residents came to us from BHS.
Better Pet Recall Search Tool. Know if your pet supplies aren’t safe. BetterPet.com is an online resource that promotes responsible pet ownership. They have designed a new, free tool for pet owners that helps owners check for recalled products that could harm their pets: things like pet foods, treats, meds, and other products. Unfortunately, many pet owners don’t always know where to go to check for recalls; other than waiting to hear it on the news. BetterPet.com’s new resource makes finding out about recalls more accessible to the public.

Car Stickers. Leashes End proudly uses magnets and stickers made by CarStickers.com Car Stickers has a non-profit support program that helps us get the word out about Leashes End. Their custom products are affordable, high quality, and help boost public awareness and appreciation of our program.
City of Elderly Love (COEL) is a 501(c)(3) no-kill senior pet rescue based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Since it’s launch in 2014, COEL has rescued over 500 senior dogs and cats from euthanasia, primarily from Philly’s open-admission animal control shelter. COEL does not maintain a physical location, but instead operates out of a network of amazing foster and hospice care homes throughout Philly and it’s surrounding areas.
Cochise Canine Rescue is a 501(c)(3) located in Arizona. CCR takes in as many of the most unadoptable dogs on the state’s euthanasia lists as we can provide appropriate care for. CCR is home to 2 three-legged dogs, another missing her foot due to cruelty and abuse, four blind dogs and another partially sighted only in one eye. We care for four totally toothless seniors including a few with broken or missing jaws. Others are missing the majority of their teeth. Currently we have two dogs with Valley Fever, the debilitating and expensive to treat fungal infection who may be in medication for their lifetimes.
Gray Face Acres. Gray Face Acres Senior Dog Rescue is an all volunteer 501c3 organization that is dedicated to rescuing senior dogs from shelters and situations of abuse and neglect . We are also dedicated to helping people keep and care for their canine companions through the A Hand Up program. We currently have a foster network in the DC/MD/VA area as well as a GFA West rescue being established by our Founder in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
Dog Lodge Sanctuary is a Texas-based 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to providing a permanent home for senior and/or special needs dogs that otherwise might face a very bleak future but in the right environment can still lead a quality life. They are focused on providing a safe, loving, healthy and stable environment for our dogs so that they may know peace and dignity for the rest of their lives. The primary function of Dog Lodge is to come to the rescue of dogs that are, for all intents and purposes, considered “unadoptable” because of advanced age or because they have chronic illness or physical disabilities.
Elysiem Pet Store is a specialty pet supply store in Bethesda, Maryland that offers premium quality all-natural pet food, treats, supplies and accessories, dog walking service and home delivery service. Elysiem is a part of your local community and supports and sponsors local events through causes that will improve the quality of life within the community. Co-Founder John McNeal is a retired US Army Officer! Hooah!
Henry’s Hope was founded by Dr. Heather K. Westfall, VMD in Reading, PA. Henry’s Hope takes in medically and surgically needy small breeds from rescues and shelters, provide their care and then try to find happy furever homes. To date they have healed and homed over 100 incredibly special dogs.
House with a Heart (HWAH) is a sanctuary and forever home for senior dogs and cats, founded in 2006 by Sher Polvinale and her late husband, Joe, in their home. Sanctuary residents are dogs and cats who have lost their families and homes through no fault of their own. Because of their advanced age and various medical conditions, they have little chance of being adopted. HWAH is a 501(c)(3) non profit and is supported by volunteers from Montgomery County and the surrounding Metro areas. HWAH is an inspiration to us here at Leashes End and we marvel at their amazing work.
Lionel’s Legacy is a senior dog rescue and 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in the state of California. Founded in 2011, they take in and find homes for seniors who have lost their homes and families. They also educate children and the community on the special needs of senior dogs.
LOVEPAWS is a community outreach and animal intake prevention program, helping pet owners in the DMV with pet food and other assistance to help keep pets in their homes and out of shelters. We also pull animals from open-admission, high-intake shelters.
Maltese & More Rescue is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to rescuing puppy mill, abandoned, and unwanted small dogs. Located in Southern California Maltese & More’s mission is to work together as a group, and in conjunction with other animal rescue groups as well as the Department of Animal Services, to rehabilitate, medically treat, spay/neuter, foster, and place each animal we rescue into loving, quality forever homes. Founded by Dawn Lierman, Maltese & More fostered Risa while she was stationed in California and helped her adopt Allie.
The Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center (MCASAC) provides high-standard sheltering and care to the homeless, abused, and neglected animals in our community. They are the the county’s only open-admissions, municipal shelter and their doors are open to all animals in need. MCASAC serves as a critical community resource to promote and advocate for responsible pet care. With community support and partnerships with other animal-welfare groups, their Foster, Rescue and Volunteer programs enhance and save the lives of even more homeless animals. Leashes End is an MCASAS rescue partner and many of our residents came here from there.
Muttville is located in San Francisco, CA and their mission is to change the way the world thinks about and treats older dogs and to create better lives for them through rescue, foster, adoption, hospice, education, and advocacy. Founded in 2007 by Sherri Franklin, a longtime animal advocate and rescue worker, Muttville has grown into a nationally recognized organization that rescues approximately 1000 dogs a year.
Reiki Awakening is Dr. Alice Langholt’s healing practice in Rockville, MD. Reiki is a word from the Japanese language, meaning “Guided Life Force Energy.” Life energy, which makes up our thoughts, emotions, and consciousness, is in every living thing and connects us all. We all have places in our energy that are off balance. We can be off balance due to stress, disease, pain, or emotional blocks, just to name a few.
Senior Dog Sanctuary. Senior Dog Sanctuary of Maryland is a 501(c)(3) rescue group in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Their mission is to help those dogs who are abandoned, abused, or face euthanasia. Many of their dogs are adoptable once healthy, but they also function as a hospice home for those who are not able to be placed.
Susie’s Senior Dogs (SSD) as a social platform that brings attention to the plight of homeless senior dogs. SSD is a 501(c)(3) and a national organization with a large, growing following on social media. SSD highlights specific homeless senior dogs who are struggling to find a forever home due to their age. To date, SSD has directly resulted in over 1200 senior dog adoptions across the United States since January 2014. SSD has made numerous generous medical grants to Leashes End senior pets in need of costly veterinary surgeries and other procedures!
Wags & Baths Grooming. Kelley Carpenter loves grooming dogs and she’s super talented! She is experienced at grooming seniors, anxious, and even severely matted dogs. She can groom some aggressive or challenging dogs as well. She works out of her salon at home in Brunswick. Prices start at $60 for a haircut, bath, nail trim, and anal gland expression. Kelley works on one dog at a time and never cages the dogs. She uses top-quality products and she hand-dries the pets. She can also groom cats!
